Sabre's introduction of the Sabre 47 in October 1996 redefined the "Downeast" style motor yacht. At one time, a "Downeast Motor Yacht" described a modified version of a workboat, converted for use as a private yacht. These designs included many famous fishing trawler and lobster boat hulls. In the 1980s several Maine yards began redesigning the traditional downeaster. In the end, only a hint of the workboat lines remained. These new yachts looked more like pleasure craft versions of such famous military vessels as the World War II PT boats. Their flat shear lines and flaring bows introduced the handsome, conservative and rugged look which has become the new "Downeast Style." Designed for comfort in rough, offshore conditions, yet capable of smooth running at top speeds of over twenty knots, these modified deep-vee hulls quickly gained popularity as they earned a reputation for reliability and seaworthiness.

The Sabre 47 offers the best in deck hardware and design. Wide side decks with large diameter, stainless steel hand rails, standard rope chain windlass and highly polished aluminum hatches all add to the beauty and functionality of her deck. A large double anchor roller makes anchoring work a breeze. Access to her bridge deck from the side decks or from the main salon companionway is safe and secure. Her bridge is equipped with an L-settee and table for fresh air dining.

The sun deck can be configured for dinghy storage or as another social space in which to sit and relax while aboard.

The interior of the Sabre 47 offers the flexibility of a galley-up three cabin version or a galley-down two cabin layout. Both versions are equipped with two head units, each with their own stall shower, ceramic sinks and tiled floor. The distinct advantage of these layouts is the complete privacy of the forward and aft cabin accommodations.

Galley conveniences include side by side Sub Zero fridge/freezers, an electric cook top and convection microwave oven.

The main salon with its lower helm station is a bright and airy space in which to relax. Large opening windows surround this luxurious space. Sliding doors to both port and starboard side decks are a popular feature.
